SO MANY Opinions about Crossfit!!!

I recently came across two very different articles on Facebook. One very PRO Crossfit and One very ANTI Crossfit. I am going to post links to both of them so you can read them and make your own opinions.

Then, I came across a blog post that came to the exact same conclusion that I had after reading the above articles. It summed up perfectly just what I was feeling after reading the two strongly written opinion pieces.

The writer states at the end of her blog post:

" So here’s what I recommend to everyone. Live the life that makes YOU the happiest. Whether that’s paleo, gluten free, pure gluten, CrossFit, jazzercise, marriage, single, muscular, skinny, really whatever. I don’t care. It’s your life. Do what makes YOU the best kind of person. Not because other people do it, but because you love it. And while you’re at it, try to keep your negative comments to yourself. No, don’t try. Just do it."

"Is Crossfit Destroying the World"

Another great article about Crossfit and the best ways to choose a box!!
This one is from STACK.COM

"Nothing captures the spirit of the recent onslaught of criticism and unease over CrossFit, an intense strength and conditioning program now enjoying global popularity, more than a line on the cover of Outside magazine's December issue. With a tongue-in-cheek edge, the copy asks, Is CrossFit Destroying the World?"
"The stories point out correctly that the number of people injured while performing CrossFit routines has increased. But what they don't address in many cases is that the number of CrossFitters has blown up over the past few years. According to CrossFit HQ, at the beginning of 2007, there were 13 affiliate gyms, also known as boxes. In early 2012, there were 4,000. Since then, the number of boxes in operation is reportedly twice that number. Outside reports that the latest tally is around 10,000 boxes in the world. If the number of participants goes up, doesn't it follow that the number of people getting injured would go up too?"

“Calling CrossFit dangerous is like saying ‘vehicular transportation is dangerous’ or ‘physical activity is dangerous.' Both are statements that might have some truth to them, but are woefully inadequate by themselves.”

Chang says that common sense goes a long way toward getting the benefits out of a CrossFit program while minimizing injury risk."His tips for athletes who want to do that?"

1. Find the licensed CrossFit boxes in your area

2. Narrow the list

3. What’s their plan?

4. Avoid chipper-obsessed boxes

5. Strength is a strength

6. Use proper mechanics with obsessive consistency

7. Develop intensity gradually

8. Take care of your body

9. Be responsible

10. Remember: There is no such thing as a perfectly safe activity.

"It's Never About Rhabdo - It's About CrossFit Hate"

One last time I want to share an article that was written in response to the Rhabdo and Crossfit Article which has been in all the Crossfit blogs, Facebook pages, and discussed in our Boxes.
I think that this author has a very valid point and ashamedly, I think that on occasion I can be kind of an elitist when it comes to types of working out. I forget that all forms of fitness are better than NO forms of fitness.  Crossfit is the way I have chosen to get fitter but not everyone may feel the same way.  It is ok to try to share what we may feel is the best way to get healthy and fit but if others do not agree, it is important not to disparage what their fitness choice is.

"Stop hating on other forms of fitness. Yes, we found the Holy Grail. Yes, we look and feel better than we ever have. But guess what? Every middle-aged housewife who is slogging away on a treadmill, every guy curling in the squat rack, every Zumba dancer, and every P90Xer is doing more than if they were just sitting on a couch pounding fistfuls of M&Ms. As fitness devotees, it seems like we would celebrate others attempting to better their lives, even if it’s not in the same way we do it."

More Crossfit Controversy! Is it Safe for Kids?? Safe for Pregnant Women??

One more day of Crossfit Discussions in the News!!!

FOX NEWS:  (watch here)
an interesting short segment on the pros of crossfit for children. It also discusses the recent stories on rhabdo and whether pregnant women should participate in a crossfit workout.

And this ARTICLE, (with an attention grabbing headline!)
"Would you send your three-year-old to CrossFit? Extreme workout regime becomes available to toddlers at New York gym"

The first sentence of the article:
"CrossFit is one of the most extreme and grueling workouts around, and now it is being offered to children as young as three."

***It has caught your attention, right?  I guess that is what writers are trying to do, capture an audience, but in actuality the article ends up being in favor of Crossfit for kids.

The final sentence of the article:,,,,,,,"Dr Jordan Metzl, a sports medicine physician at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, told NPR that it makes young peoples' muscles a 'a lot stronger, and it is very helpful for them."
